a boutique escape in the heart of the cotswolds

Tucked away on the edge of the village, Spring Cottage is a picture-perfect Cotswold stone hideaway — peaceful, full of charm, and surrounded by countryside views that stretch over pretty gardens and open fields.

Inside, you’ll find all the cosy character you’d hope for: exposed beams, painted stone walls, stripped pine floors, and a classic cottage stove that’s perfect for curling up beside after a day exploring. It’s the kind of place where time slows down — a little country retreat made for lazy mornings, good food, and family time.

Just wander down the lane and you’ll find The Lamb Inn, a local favourite (and The Times’ Pub of the Year, 2021!). It’s the perfect spot for a Sunday roast or a quiet pint by the fire — proper Cotswold charm at its best.

We’re based in Shipton-under-Wychwood, in the heart of West Oxfordshire — just 1.5 hours from London. If you’d rather leave the car behind, there’s an hourly train from London to Charlbury or Kingham Station, which are only a 10-minute taxi ride away.

A little slice of countryside calm — with the friendliest pub and prettiest walks right on your doorstep.

The neighbourhood

Shipton-under-Wychwood sits in the middle of many remarkable towns of the Cotswolds such as Burford, Stow-on-the-Wold, Moreton-in-Marsh, Bourton-on-the-Water and Woodstock.
In addition to some hidden gems that you’ve probably never heard of such as Old Minster with its ancient leaning buildings, The Slaughters and The Barringtons with quaint villages and endless Cotswold fields.

Shipton-under-Wychwood itself is rich with history, and is perfectly positioned to venture to other stunning areas of the Cotswolds. A term for the area is ‘The Wychwoods’ which consists of Shipton-under-Wychwood, Milton-under-Wychwood and Ascott-under-Wychwood and vaguely includes the surrounding villages. The area was once the site of a hunting forest called the Wychwood Forest, hence the name. Here Henry VII and other Tudor monarchs would hunt for sport.
Today, Wychwood Forest is considerably smaller, but the villages in the Evenlode valley supply endless possibilities for soaking up the history and culture.

Testimonials

Claudia’s cottage is the perfect place for a Cotswolds escape. Lovely sized cottage, really quiet but not far from everything. We loved the suggestions for walks and local pubs and had a great stay - great host and great accommodation, we’ll be back!

This is the best Air BnB I've stayed in! Really beautiful and homey decor. Great log burner. Comfortable beds, wonderful kitchen equipped with everything you need to cook a big meal. Quiet and lovely location. Claudia the host was extremely welcoming, helpful and available at all times with any questions. Cannot recommend this cottage enough. Super close to lots of beautiful Cotswold villages and with lovely country walks nearby.
